Springfield, Tennessee is the county seat of Robertson County. For almost 200 years Springfield has been a commercial center for the surrounding agricultural region. Because the soil and climate are ideal for the growing of tobacco, its production has had an economic and cultural influence in the area since the early 1800s. Springfield is also a major center for manufacturing in the county. It is also home to NorthCrest Medical Center, a hospital and medical arts campus. Some 16,700 people call Springfield home.
The Robertson County Courthouse has been newly renovated and is located on The Square, the original downtown commercial district. The Square is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is bordered by attractive older buildings that were constructed in the 19th century. The Robertson County History Museum, business offices, specialty shops, and restaurants can also be found on The Square. Adjacent to The Square is the residential Springfield Historic Preservation District where many of the larger and older churches can also be found within a couple of blocks of The Square
Additional Springfield attractions to take in include The Legacy, an 18-hole municipal golf course designed by Raymond Floyd. The Greenway is a hike and bike trail that is three miles long and connects two Springfield parks and winds through the Historic Preservation District and The Square. Those interested in the theater can enjoy the community theatre with The Robertson County Players. Each year several plays and musicals take place on the historic Springfield Middle School Auditorium. The parks and recreation department of Springfield maintains the American Legion Field, the Garner Street Park, J.
