Madison is a suburban neighborhood of Nashville, Tennessee. The Madison Station post office opened in 1857, and Madison was a connecting suburb until it was annexed into Nashville when Nashville consolidated with Davidson County in 1963. Madison has two major areas, Downtown Madison and Rivergate. Between the two is an area called Motor Mile. Madison is one of some 26 Nashville neighborhoods and is covered by the zip code 37115. Currently, approximately 40,200 people live in Madison.
Madison has some interesting historical sites as well as lovely greenways for residents and visitors to enjoy. The Amqui Train Station houses a museum and is the visitor center for the city. The station was built by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and until 1979 served the community. When the railroad vacated the station, it was purchased by Johnny Cash and moved to Sumner County where his home was located. Following the death of Cash and his wife, the station was returned to Madison and is now open to the public. Madison also offers three public parks to residents and visitors. Madison Park lies in the center of North Dupont Avenue, State Route 45, and Delaware Avenue. Peeler Park can be found at the end of Overton Road, off Neelys Bend Road. Cedar Hill Park lies where Dickerson Pike and Old Hickory Boulevard cross. All these parks offer beautiful landscape and gathering areas. Shoppers will find a variety of offerings at Rivergate Mall.
